Lawler's Predictable Attack Ads

Lawler's Predictable Attack Ads

Recently, Rep. Mike Lawler's alternate Twitter account, @lawler4ny, has been posting a series of political smear ads directed at Mondaire Jones, his rival for New York's 17th congressional district this year. You know the kind of ads: take an unflattering photo of your opponent, paint it red, and add hyperbolic talking points to make them look bad.

These smear ads have been so predictable and formulaic, we were inclined to make some for Mike himself:

Created in response to a similar ad directed at Mondaire Jones

The funny thing about these ads, is that many of them attack Jones for things he can't control, since it's Lawler who's in Congress right now, and Republicans who lead the most unproductive and chaotic House majority seen in generations.

Presented with an opportunity to pass the strongest bipartisan border legislation seen in decades, they refused– at the behest of Donald Trump– because he wants the border as a talking point for this year's election. But this was done so openly, it's now become a millstone around the neck of the Republican party.

Lawler is a proud member of the most unproductive House majority in generations

Last year after a chaotic ouster of their former Speaker, Kevin McCarthy, Republicans went on to elect Mike Johnson, who is one of the architects of the Big Lie and the effort to overturn the 2020 election. They've failed to pass any meaningful legislation, have had multiple close calls for funding the government, and stand idly by while Ukrainians are dying every day from Russian aggression.

In the words of Liz Cheney, "this group of elected Republicans can't be counted on to defend the Constitution." As rational members like Ken Buck and Mike Gallagher are leaving behind the absurdity of impeaching Mayorkas and Biden, they will soon be down to a one-vote majority in the House. We can only hope that a few more leave so Congress can get back to doing the business of the People.

As Lawler is unlikely to leave, even though it would be better for the country, we'll continue to create these ads in response to his inevitable campaign of fear and smear coming this year.
